In most situations, such as in wind-bracing applications, where tendons are required to cross each other, a circular disc is used, as shown at right.

Macalloy Cross Couplers
Lately Macalloy has developed a new product that offers an aesthetic and cost-effective solution for intersecting rods.
The Cross-Coupler system is developed to provide an elegant solution for intersecting bars, and eliminates the need for central fork connections. Lock covers are designed so that the thread is completely hidden. Designed as standard for rods from M10 to M64.
All solutions are available in both steel and stainless steel, with a choice of finishes including galvanized, painted, varnished or polished.
An alternative is to use a cross coupler where one bar passes through the coupler to provide a seamless brace with no connection disc needed.
As an aesthetic alternative, Macalloy offers a ring-type connector, which often is used in a horizontal plane.
If the cross angle have to be smaller than 40°, a butterfly plate can be used. It can be designed to be as small as possible to carry the required load.
